The relocatable resource is very useful, it's one of the practical things that was really missing in JSF1 when doing performance optimizations:

Eg. my component needs a js (eg. jquery) because I want to reuse some of that functionality. I don't want to include jquery in the head itself (which is in a common facelet template); because then it's included everywhere; also on pages that don't have my special component. (unnecessary overhead).

It also makes it easier to implement YUI performance guidelines like CSS in the element; JS at the bottom of the html
(eg. http://developer.yahoo.com/performance/rules.html#js_bottom)

@Zack
You can output (produce) whatever you want with Facelets. Its just that the (server side) input format is XHTML.

@Stian
You can pretty much tell any component to deliver a style sheet, I just don't think that that is the job of a component. Using someone else components will also mean you don't know what they are forcing on you.

@Zack
Facelets requires xhtml as input. It makes it easier to proces.

@Jose
I just don't see why. If you could be more specific perhaps.

I find the relocatable resource very usable in portlet environments, for example.

About the relocatable resource. I haven't looked at the JSF 2.0 spec yet, but I assume you could do things like add an additional style sheet when your head section is provided by a Facelets like template.
